Electricity, water, furniture and other hostel property
- Electricity should be used judiciously and wastage must be avoided at all costs.
- All electrical appliances should be switched off every time you leave the hostel for meals, church services, matches and other activities.
- All lights should be switched off when residents leave the hostel.
- Residents must never tamper with electrical installations. The college’s electricians should be called to sort out any problems.
- Heavy electrical appliances, such as heaters and kettles, should not be used without prior agreement with the finance and administration manager.
- Water should be used judiciously and not wasted.
- Water coolers installed in the common rooms should be used with due care and should not be tampered with.
- Residents must ensure that water taps are properly closed before they leave the hostel.
- Residents should take good care of the furniture and fixtures in the cubicles, rooms and other hostel areas.
- There should be no movement of furniture from one cubicle, room or wing to another.
- Residents should not bring their own furniture into the hostel.
- Television sets in the common rooms should only be used by permission from house parents or assistant house parents. Residents must take good care of the televisions if they have been allowed to use them.
Cleanliness
- The hostel residents should keep their cubicles and rooms neat and tidy.
- Beds must be properly made before residents leave for breakfast.
- All litter should be placed in the bins provided.
- Nothing is to be thrown out of the windows.
- No one is allowed to write anything on the walls, fixtures or furniture.
- Ablutions are to be kept in as clean a state as possible.
- No clothing is to be left in the showers. Laundry must be hung on the lines provided in the quad.
Silence
- Silence must be observed in the hostel between lights out time (2130 hours) and rising time (0530 hours).
- Playing loud music or engaging in noisy activity that may disturb others is not allowed.
- If the television is being used, the volume should be such as to be audible only in the common room.
Supervision of young children
Parents and other adults must ensure that children are properly supervised. Children must not:
- Play monkey games in the hostel.
- Be allowed to jump on beds and sofas.
- Swing on curtain rails.
- Run in wings and corridors.
- Play ball games in the wings, quads and the immediate vicinity of the hostels.
- Throw missiles and other dangerous objects in the hostels.
Smoking and drinking
- No liquor or other intoxicating substances may be consumed in the hostels.
- The hostels are a “Smoke Free Zone.”
Pets
- No pets may be brought into the hostel.
Safety of personal belongings
- It is the responsibility of the residents to take care of their personal belongings.
- Cell phones must not be left charging unattended.
- Valuables must be locked up in the lockers or kept on one’s person.
- Hostel gates must be locked during the night.
- The college is not responsible for any losses.
Hostel Keys
- All keys issued to residents must be left with the house parent, assistant house parent or house keeper as agreed when checking in.
